Hamilton fastest on Friday

Lewis Hamilton topped the time sheets in both the first and second free practice session on Friday at the Shanghai International Circuit. The Briton was followed by Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet in the second free practice session. Massa ended sixth.

Lewis Hamilton completed the fastest lap again in the second 90-minute free practice session. In the first quarter of an hour the Briton set his fastest lap time of this session at 1.35.750. There wasn't any other driver who managed to go faster this afternoon in Shanghai.

At Renault Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet continued to show the team's strong progression as the duo ended second and third behind Hamilton. At Honda meanwhile the team seems to have given up on this season already as Button and Barrichello finished at the bottom of the time sheets.

In today's second free practice session there was just one small incident. With ten minutes left in the session Sebastien Bourdais flew off in Turn 1 and got stuck in the gravel.
