Heidfeld sets surprise final practice pace

18 October 2008

Nick Heidfeld set the surprise pace in final practice at Shanghai in a session where the BMWs showed some threatening pace with Kubica third. Lewis Hamilton led for most of the session and ended up second.

On a dry and warm morning at Shanghai with air and track temperature up at 28C, the session took a while to get going with the track looking quite slippery in the early stages as a number of drivers ran wide.

Mark Webber was the only driver to suffer some drama as he endured an engine failure on his Red Bull and ended eighteenth.

Behind the top three, Kovalainen was the next quickest ahead of Trulli, Rosberg, Bourdais and Coulthard.

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen ended twelfth and thirteenth while Fernando Alonso finished sixteenth.
