A markedly more calm Lewis Hamilton hailed his dominant Chinese Grand Prix victory as a major step forward in his bid to become Formula One's youngest ever world champion.

All weekend we've had God on our side as always and the team have done a phenomenal job preparing the car, it's felt fantastic all weekend," Hamilton said after the race. "I owe so much to the guys, not just at the track but at home too. The car is phenomenal to drive and they make sure it stays in tact so I can bring it home. It was quite straightforward really, I managed to get everything right on the formation lap and made a great start, one of the best we've had, which was needed. So I went into turn one quite clear and took it quite easy the first few corners and tried to build the gap from there."
"We were very consistent and made very few errors," he added. "After my second pit stop we were just cruising, looking after the tyres and engine and just trying to bring the car home. I knew there was a big gap behind me and it was inevitable Kimi would let Felipe by and it was just about keeping your head and staying calm."
Hamilton heads to the Brazilian Grand Prix showdown with a seven-point lead, the same advantage he had in 2007 before losing out to Felipe Massa.
"This is another step towards the championship and my dream and the team's dream," he went on. "They deserve it, we've worked hard throughout the season. We approached this race right, not trying to win it all here, but approach the last two races and score as many points as possible. I know we'll be more competitive in Brazil than we were last year. It will be tough but I hope as a team we can pull through."
