Tyre manufacturer Bridgestone has said it will start a full investigation to Heikki Kovalainen's flat tyre. The Finn was racing for points in Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix until his right front tyre gave up on him.
"Heikki Kovalainen suffered a puncture which led to his tyre carcass braking up and we are investigating the cause of this," Bridgestone's Hirohide Hamashima has said. He furthermore said: "Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton, this is a fantastic result for him, considering what happened here last season."
In Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix Heikki Kovalainen was racing in fifth position until he had to pit for a new tyre.
