Former Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso has ended the final free practice session of the season on top of the time sheets. The Spaniard set his time in the dying minutes of the session and pipped Hamilton, Kovalainen and Massa.

The final one-hour free practice session got under way on Saturday morning at Interlagos. The first part of the session was reasonably quiet on track. After fifteen minutes the McLaren and Ferrari drivers hit the track and it was mostly Hamilton who topped the time sheets in the session.

In the second half of the sessions there weren't many drivers improving their fastest times. It wasn't until the final 10 minutes of the session when the Brazilian fans saw the F1 drivers fit their cars with the softer Bridgestone compound and times would soon start to drop.

At the end of the session Fernando Alonso completed the fastest lap. The Spaniard was only just ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Felipe Massa ended fourth.
