Trulli always expected to be strong at Interlagos
01 November 2008 / Results / PhotosJarno Trulli may have achieved Toyota's first front row start since the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix - 55 races ago - but the Italian claimed he always expected to be particularly competitive at Interlagos.
However, it wasn't all straight forward for Trulli, who was suffering from a serious fever on Thursday and came close to sitting out Friday practice.
"For the first time I thought I wasn't going to make it to drive because I was feeling so bad," Trulli said after qualifying. "I really have to thank the team from engineers and mechanics to the doctors who did everything they good to get me in a condition to be quick here in Brazil."
"I've always felt we could be very competitive here all season and been preparing for that," he added. "I really played my cards right in qualifying, saving tyres and getting ready for Q3 just to get that good lap. I'm really happy for Toyota as we've been really competitive here and it shows the progress the team has made this season."
"The tyres were good today, but it'll be more of an issue to protect them tomorrow, so lets wait and see because some people might have some problems," he warned. "Our car could be good tomorrow and the warmer conditions work better for us."
