Bourdais still hopes to stick with Toro Rosso

10 November 2008

The Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 team has yet to announce its 2009 driver line-up. The Italians are likely to sign up Sebastien Buemi as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel, but the team's 2008 race driver Sebastian Bourdais is still hoping for a contract extension.

Scuderia Toro Rosso sees Takuma Sato in the team's car at next week three-day test session at Circuit de Catalunya. Japan's most successful Formula 1 driver could soon make his return in F1 after a dramatic season that saw his team Super Aguri go bankrupt.

Sebastien Bourdais was out-paced by team-mate Vettel for most of the season but showed he finally has the car under control in the final part of the season. The Frenchman now hopes he can extend his contract at Toro Rosso. "I hope my highlight of 2008 is still to come as I am waiting to find out if I will be driving for the team in 2009," Bourdais was quoted by ITV.

"I would love to continue in Formula 1 and with Toro Rosso, because in the final third of the season, I really felt I was getting to grips with the car, after struggling with the STR3 for a few races after we ran it for the first time in Monaco. Making it through to Q3 in five of the last six races is a good memory and my qualifying lap in Brazil was my best of the year, even if being on the second row in Monza was my best grid position."
