BMW Sauber F1 team part owner Peter Sauber has heaped praise on his outfit after it finished third in the constructors' championship and took its maiden victory this season.
His comments come despite criticism from some quarters that the outfit could have fought to win the drivers' and constructors' championships if it hadn't switched its focus to the 2009 car so early in the season.
"The team had achieved the objectives it set by midway through the year. That is a great result," said Sauber. "If you look at the points that we picked up in 2008, then it is more than we expected."
"For me, this was the best season that I have ever experienced," he added. "It is a fantastic effort to still be in with a mathematical chance of becoming world champion with just three races remaining."
