McLaren's deal with the Force India team could put Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil's race seats for 2009 at risk, despite team owner Vijay Mallya having confirmed them earlier this year.
"McLaren will recommend what they believe to be in the best interests of my team and I'll have to decide," Mallya told Reuters. "I'd be hard pressed to ignore their advice."
"The first thing though is to build the car," he added. "If we don't have a car then there's no point having a driver. We need to focus on the car and the driver will come next and that's when we'll have these conversations."
Speculation is growing that McLaren might place try to place Paul di Resta at Force India, although Mallya insists that at the moment there are no plans to change the current line up, although he admitted others could be tested.
