Piquet targets top six in 2009

Nelson Piquet is aiming to finish the drivers championship in the top six next season as he bids to repay Renault for giving him another season, and persuade the team to retain him long term.

"2008 wasn't the season I dreamed of," Piquet told Reuters. "I had a lot of ups and downs and problems but I learnt a lot."

"I was very fresh at the start of the year and I was really happy when we reached agreement," he added of the announcement Renault made after the end of the season. "The car was very different from 2007, and at the start of the year we were still developing it a lot. Next year there's going to be another big shift but mechanically it's not going to change much so I think we'll continue to be strong."

"We have to be a bit optimistic and I think we have a good chance of being on the podium regularly," he went on. "
