Ecclestone offers French little hope

24 November 2008

Bernie Ecclestone has offered French Grand Prix oranisers little hope of returning to the F1 World Championship saying any such move is unlikely before 2011.

Ecclestone claims that the right venue will be key to any chance France has of getting back on the world championship calendar after Euro Disney and Lagardere Sports abandoned a project that could have brought the race to the outskirts of Paris.

"I've always thought that it was the right spot for us, that it was the new location that suited the French Grand Prix," Ecclestone told L'Equipe newspaper about his hopes the race would move to Paris.

"We went to Magny Cours for the wrong reasons, political ones," he added. "I want to try to avoid a repeat. What we want to find is the right spot because the French Grand Prix has to stay there a long time."

Ecclestone went on to say that he felt 'quite sure' there would be no French race in 2010 either.
