Red Bull buys back Toro Rosso stake

Red Bull buys back Toro Rosso stake

25 November 2008

Red Bull has bought back the 50 per cent stake of Scuderia Toro Rosso held by Gerhard Berger, the energy drink company confirmed today.

Berger bought half of the team from Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2006 while his compatriot acquired a similar stake in Berger's haulage business. Mateschitz will keep a high stake in Berger's family business.

The move to buy back the remaining 50 per cent of Toro Rosso is a marked departure for Red Bull from rumours earlier in 2008, before the team's win at Monza, that it was looking to off-load its own stake.

"Red Bull will now run Toro Rosso alon," Mateschitz said. "As well as remaining a partner of Berger Logistik."

The deal is subject to approval by competition authorities, but is expected to go through without problem.
