Donington Grand Prix: No cars please!

27 November 2008

The organisers of the 2010 British Grand Prix at Donington Park are trying to organise the race without any cars in the car park during the Formula 1 weekend at the British track. Formula One fans are asked to travel by bus from Nottingham, Leicester or Derby, take the train to East Midlands Parkway Station or fly to East Midlands Airport.

Simon Gillett, chief executive of Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd, said during an open day to showcase Donington's corporate activities: "This will be the first public transport Grand Prix. We are not bringing cars here. We are looking to use public transport from all the major conurbations, the airport and the Parkway station."

He furthermore said that they are well on schedule for the track changes. "We are still on schedule for our construction programme,"Gillett said. "We will have a nine-month construction programme in an 18-month window. We have got the time and we have got the money. It is going to be the world's best circuit."
