Klien says new regulations will improve racing

05 December 2008

BMW test driver Christian Klien says that the new regulations for 2009 will mean that F1 cars can follow one another much more closely and in turn will enable easier overtaking.

"We've noticed already that you can follow a car much more closely," Klien said. "That's mainly because of the bigger front wing which gives much more front end stability. But more importantly, the smaller real win will dramatically reduce the dirty air when you are following another car which will be a major factor for overtaking."

BMW was the first team to run a fully 2009 aero format car at the last test, and will run two cars in that configuration next week at Jerez.

"Since we were the only ones running 2009 wings we can't say much more about how it will affect overtaking," he added. "At the next test we'll run two cars in this configuration to get more detail though."
