Sebastien Buemi continued to show the kind of pace that could earn him an F1 race seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2009, after topping the time sheets for the second day at Jerez.

On a day that started with a wet track, but eventually dried out Buemi finished half a second ahead of Takuma Sato in the other Toro Rosso as he clocked a 1m18.073s time after 128 laps. Sebastien Bourdais, the third driver looking to secure a race seat with Toro Rosso in 2009 ended the day fourth behind McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa who tested the team's 2009 front wing for the first time.

Kimi Raikkonen finished the day fifth for Ferrari ahead of fellow Finn Heikki Kovalainen who drove McLaren's KERS test car today.

Fernando Alonso was back behind the wheel for the first time since the Brazilian Grand Prix and finished seventh fastest after 106 laps, but did go off track in the morning. He finished ahead of Rosberg in the Williams, the two BMWs of Heidfeld and Kubica and Felipe Massa who only ran for a couple of hours in the late afternoon.

Testing at Jerez continues tomorrow.
