Hamilton happy to wait for return

13 December 2008

Lewis Hamilton says he is happy to sit out winter testing until his scheduled return to the cockpit in January, despite the fact it may cost him valuable time getting used to the new tyres and regulations.

Hamilton believes the extended beak since the end of the season will do him good and mean he is refreshed and energised enough to defend his title.

"I've learned from last season that I did so much at the beginning and the end of the season that I had nothing left in me really," Hamilton told Autosport. "I'm surprised I was even ready for the first race."

"So I'm managing it better this year and making sure I get enough rest," he added. "I've just started training again and I'm not doing the testing this year - I'll be back when the new car comes and I'm looking forward to it."
