Hartley aims for Superlicense in Jerez

15 December 2008

Red Bull junior driver Brendon Hartley has joined Red Bull Racing in Jerez this week with just one aim: qualify for a FIA Superlicense. The 19-year-old from New Zealand has to complete 300km at Jerez this week in order to get his Superlicense and thus to be able to test and/or race at official Formula 1 events.

His manager Peter Johnston said about this week's test for Hartley: "He will be doing a lot of componentry testing, and trying to complete 300km to qualify for a Superlicence which will allow him drive in F1. He will be testing various packages such as aerodynamics and gearboxes in stints of 10-15 laps.

"It won't be about having the fastest lap - it's all about completing 300km to get his Superlicence and doing what he is told. If everything goes square, they can use him for proper testing next year."

Hartley is one of the candidates to become Red Bull's test and reserve driver next season.
