KERS will not help me - Kubica

KERS will not help me - Kubica

18 December 2008

BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica expects that the new KERS systems on F1 cars will actually hinder him more than it will give an advantage next season.

Kubica, one of the taller drivers in F1, has concerns that the added weight of the kinetic energy recovery system will penalise him more than any other driver. Last winter, the Polish driver worked on losing several kilos of weight to ensure his size wasn't costing him in the cockpit.

"Our cars will for sure also run without KERS," Kubica told the official F1 site. "And it's my opinion that the car built without KERS can go quicker than the car built with KERS but not using it. KERS needs space and if you then don't use it, you're wasting space in the car."

"We're analysing what's better and in what direction the development should go," he added. "My goal is that we have one of the best performing cars at the first race and I'd prefer the car without KERRS in that I have a bigger disadvantage with it."
