Coulthard doesn't expect many miles in 2009

19 December 2008

David Coulthard retired at the end of last season after fifteen years racing in Formula One. The Scotsman did receive a contract though at Red Bull Racing for 2009 but his role will be mainly an advisory role in the team. He hopes there will be an opportunity though now and then to drive the car.

Speaking about his role at Red Bull Racing for next season Coulthard told ITV: "Well, the in-season testing ban will obviously reduce the opportunities for me to drive the car, and I may not end up having much, if any, seat time.

"Once the new car comes in February the race drivers will be in that all the time, so at this stage I don't expect to do a great deal of running outside of promotional events. But my contract is there and my training is continuing - I haven't wound down in that respect, and I will have primarily an advisory role in the team.

"I will need to start to take a perspective as a non-racer, so it will be interesting to see what I learn from outside the car."
