Fisichella hopes to be more competitive in 2009

19 December 2008

Giancarlo Fisichella has had a difficult season. For the Italian it was the first season since a decade where had to finish the season without scoring any championship points. Fisichella hopes to have a better car to race with in 2009.

After having left the championship winning team Renault F1 at the end of 2007 Fisichella joined Force India for a new challenge but was found at the back of the grid for most of the season. "That was tough mentally," Fisichella admits, "but every time I sit in a car I do my best - it's your job, so you have to do as well as you can. I just hope that we have a better car for 2009!

"The good thing was the great atmosphere in the team. Even in those conditions the guys were really professional, they were always pushing, and that was good. It was a positive season on that side, maybe because there was less pressure and I had a friendship with everybody."

In 2009 Force India will race with Mercedes engines and the support of the McLaren Formula 1 team. Speaking about the upcoming season Fisichella said: "I'm looking forward to it. With the new rules it could all change, especially with the slick tyres, and different downforce levels. I think it's very important to build a good car for those rules, and to try to run as soon as possible with the new car with the slicks. With the new partnerships I think it's a great opportunity for us.

"We have a better chance than this year for sure, but nobody knows how things will work out with the new rules! We'll only see that in Australia…"
