Howett: Ecclestone not able to split FOTA

23 December 2008

Bernie Ecclestone revealed Ferrari's special deal last weekend. The Italian team is receiving a total of $ 80 million dollar a year on top of the normal prize money. According to Toyota team boss John Howett Ecclestone didn't reveal anything that took him by surprise and said the Briton won't be able to split the FOTA.

The Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) is the group of Formula 1 teams who are acting together when it comes to negotiating deals with Formula One Management. Ferrari team boss Luca di Montzemolo is FOTA's chairman and hit out at Ecclestone as the Italian wants to see a bigger piece of the pie when it comes to F1's revenues for Formula 1 teams. Ecclestone hit back at Di Montezemolo by revealing Ferrari's special deal as Ferrari is receiving an extra of $ 80 million dollar a year to race in Formula 1. But FOTA's vice-chairman John Howett is not impressed.

Howett was quoted by The Times saying: "He may be trying to split Fota but all the information that was given is very transparent and openly shared among the members of Fota, so it was a bit of a non-event because everybody is aware of the historic status of Ferrari."
