Massa against proposed pay cut

24 December 2008

Felipe Massa has made his opinions known on the idea of driver pay cuts in a bid to further reduce the running costs of Formula One.

Following the recent changes to the sport, mostly finance-related, the 2008 runner-up responded to the idea of reducing drivers' salaries by suggesting that there are other sectors where cutting back would be more effective. The idea was first brought forward by Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali after witnessing both the £1.1bn projected losses of Toyota as well as the demise of the Honda team.

When being questioned at a UNICEF press conference in hometown São Paulo, however, Massa responded by noting that the expense of driver salaries are "small" compared to the overall running of the teams and budgets on offer. The Brazilian also became the latest in a long list of people to describe his dissatisfaction towards plans to run a standardised F1 engine.
