Alonso to join Ferrari in 2011?

29 December 2008

Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has signed a contract for four seasons with Ferrari according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. The Spaniard would join the Italian team in 2011 and so he would continue to race for Renault for another two seasons.

The 27-year-old Alonso has been linked with Ferrari several times in the past twelve months. The Ferrari team never made a secret out of it that they are a big fan of the Spaniard. "Alonso is something special. He is an extraordinary driver," Di Montezemolo already once said.

Spanish bank Santandar announced earlier this month it will become Ferrari's official sponsor in 2010 and would love to see Alonso join the team. According to Gazzetta dello Sport Alonso could join the Italians already in 2010 if Raikkonen would not be able to perform as expected.
