Donington has received some encouraging news ahead of next week's planning application hearing which will determine whether improvements and expansion to the circuit and facilities will be allowed so that it can host the British Grand Prix from 2010.
The Donington site sits in two separate English counties and so approval for the major redevelopment, needed to bring it up to F1 standards, must be approved by both to go ahead.
The main opposition to date has been from environmentalists who argue against the redevelopment based on the impact it will have on the surrounding area, and residents in the local area who are fighting on noise pollution grounds. However one of the county's directors has said in a report seen by a local newspaper that 'the development offers substantial economic opportunities and has the potential to attract both visitor spend and investment."
The report found that only a small number of areas would experience significant changes in noise levels.
