The Honda Formula 1 team is currently looking for a new team owner but also an engine supplier as the Japanese marque is not willing to continue in F1 in any area. Ross Brawn, former technical director at Ferrari and currently team principal for the Brackley-based team, has contacted his past employers to see if the Italians are willing to supply them with a customer engine.

Brawn is currently negotiating with two or more possible buyers for the team and has admitted he is in talks with Ferrari. A Ferrari spokesperson confirmed: "The team has asked us if we are able to provide them with engines and we said yes."

Ferrari supplied both the Toro Rosso and Force India teams with engines in 2008 although the Indian squad has since announced it will be running with Mercedes a power plant for the new season. The best result for a Ferrari customer engine to date was with Sauber in 2001, as the Swiss team powered to fourth in the constructors' championship.
