Construction work at the Donington Park circuit got underway over the weekend after organisers were granted planning permission from local authorities on Thursday.
The £100million redevelopment work necessary to bring Donington up to F1 standards and ensure it is able to host the British Grand Prix from 2010 onwards includes building a new paddock, extending the circuit in places, bringing run-off areas and safety structures up to F1 standards, and also improving road access to the circuit for spectators.
A tunnel is being built to ease traffic flow within the site and is due to be completed by the end of February while the new paddock should be completed by July.
Circuit organisers must now make enough progress ahead of an update meeting with Bernie Ecclestone in September to ensure the F1 boss is convinced the facility will be ready in time.
