McLaren using 2008 rear wing to understand 2009 specs

16 February 2009

The McLaren Formula 1 team was using the team's 2008 rear wing instead of the much smaller rear wing according to the 2009 specifications. According to the team's test driver Pedro de la Rosa the team is using the old rear wing to compare the behaviour of the car with last year's MP4-23.

Speaking with Spanish newspaper Diario Sport De la Rosa explained: "We're looking for more comparisons with last year's car. With all the rule changes we don't have a lot of references so to understand the behaviour of the car we try to compare it with how it behaved last year using the 2008 rear wing. The rear wing is running with low down force though since the new rules are giving us a lot less down force on the car."
