Stoddart has doubts over USF1

26 February 2009

Former European Minardi chief Paul Stoddart has expressed concern over the new USF1 outfit, due to be on the grid by 2010.

The Australian - Minardi boss between 2001 and 2005 - believes that new the team will find the going tough, especially as there is no Grand Prix in the States at present.

"I personally can't see how they are going to pull a major sponsor or investor out of the US when there's no race there," Stoddart explained to Reuters. "Very few Americans care terribly much about Formula One, and I certainly found it harder to get money there in comparison to Europe. Indeed, impossible."

Stoddart himself was linked with a possible Minardi return for 2008, an F1 entry bid which was eventually taken by David Richards' Warwickshire-based Prodrive team which subsequently pulled out over a dispute with customer cars.
