Abu Dhabi making progress

02 March 2009

Formula One's latest newcomer to the calendar, Abu Dhabi, is continuing to make progress with the construction of its new venue. The Yas Marina circuit will host the final race of the season, and could well be the scene of a championship decider if the last three seasons are anything to go by.

It was confirmed in February 2007 that the United Arab Emirates would host its first F1 Grand Prix this year, and construction began soon after. The circuit, 5.554km in length, will feature a spectacular complex around the Marina and brand new hotel complex.

The new facility is being developed by company Mixed Use; "About 60 per cent of the first phase of the project has been completed," Director Steve K.Worrel confirmed to Gulf News, who also said that approximately 37,000 workers are involved to make sure the project is completed on time.

The race, Round 17 of the 2009 championship, will take place on 01 November at 15:00 local time (GMT +4).
