McLaren continuing with new floor

11 March 2009

McLaren is continuing to use the new floor which it first ran on the car in Barcelona on Monday. As Lewis Hamilton - fresh from receiving his MBE from the Queen - takes over for Wednesday's running, the team is satisfied with the performance of the MP4-24's latest features which, so far, have been tested by Heikki Kovalainen.

The car's modification to the floor sees triangular-shaped sections removed on both sides between the sidepods and rear suspension, in a bid to increase rear-end downforce. In addition to this, modifications have also been made to the front wing and top body. The team has also been focussing on pit-stop practice in Barcelona, and Hamilton will run a similar programme today.

Managing Director, Jonathan Neale, explained the agenda: "We are running through a big programme in Barcelona this week. Not only have we introduced a new series of aerodynamic components to the MP4-24 but have also been working on the car's setup and balance over longer runs as well as rehearsing our pit-stop procedures. Tuesday was a very productive day in the car for Heikki and we are hoping for an equally satisfactory conclusion to the week with Lewis."
