Fisichella looking for more 'force'

14 March 2009

The Force India team's test in Barcelona this week has led driver Giancarlo Fisichella to the conclusion that, although he is happy with the performance of the new VJM02, higher levels of grip must be found to insure that the car is competitive this season. The Italian clocked up the most laps of anybody in Thursday's final session, with a total of 141.

The fourth and final day of the test gave the Roman an opportunity to complete the equivalent of a full race distance: "It was a good day - we went in the right direction with some setup work and the car was very reliable, so we started to work on the balance of it; it's not so bad but we could do with some more aero grip," Giancarlo explained.

The Italian did feel, however, that he had missed the chance to get the most out of the car when the track was in peak condition in the morning, believing that a lap time closed to 1.20.500 would have been possible, opposed to his eventual fastest of 1.21.045. "It's quite encouraging," Fisichella continued, "we now know where we need to improve."

Tuesday will see the debut of the second of the team's new chassis with test driver Vitantonio Liuzzi at Silverstone, as Force India prepares for the start of the season. "Over the course of this week we have completed more than 2,000 kilometres and have a very strong basis on which to start the season," commented Technical Director James Key.
