The Renault team completed it's pre-season running in Jerez on Tuesday, as Nelson Piquet lapped the circuit 133 times to place himself third of four drivers. The French team will now look towards finalizing preparations to travel to Australia with an R29 which has been reliable over the winter months.
"My final day of testing went really well and I'm pleased that we were able to do so many laps," Piquet said at the end of the day. "We were looking at the car's aerodynamic performance as well as doing more setup work in preparation for the first race, finding a good overall balance for the car."
Chief Test Engineer, Christian Silk, will now return to the factory during the season where more analysis will be taking place between and during races: "Today was our last day of testing this year and we had a lot of things to get through," Silk explained. "I'm happy with the team's performance over the past few weeks - we've had a tough winter schedule but it's nice to end our final test on a high."
Piquet, who suffered a frustrating season in 2008, has just over a week remaining until the true start of his all-important second season in Formula 1. "I'm now ready and I think, as a team, we can be happy with the work we've done over the winter," the Brazilian concluded.
