Coulthard confirmed as Red Bull reserve driver

25 March 2009

Scotland's David Coulthard is to remain is to remain at Red Bull Racing as reserve driver; Coulthard, winner of 13 Grands Prix during his career, retired following last season's Brazilian Grand Prix. With a disappointing season in 2008, it is likely more will be seen of David this year as he becomes pundit for BBC Sport's F1 programme.

With Sebastian Vettel moving from Toro Rosso to join Coulthard's former team-mate Mark Webber, the Scot will be called in to drive the car if needed at any point throughout the first two race weekends of the year in Australia and Malaysia, a team spokeswoman confirmed to GPUpdate.net.

New Zealand's Brendon Hartley has already been tipped to move into the role, however, and drove enough kilometres for the team this winter to obtain his Formula 1 super licence, of which he is still waiting to receive.
