The Force India team enjoyed its first practice session of the season in Melbourne on Friday, with Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella finishing the day in ninth and thirteenth positions respectively. The team's new Mercedes-powered car did not make its debut until February, knowledge which generated motivation in the Indian team's garage by as both of its cars finished within the top 15 runners.
"'It's been a promising start to the weekend today," Chief Operating Office Simon Roberts said. "I've been really pleased with the team and the overall performance; apart from a couple of niggles in the first session we managed to complete everything we needed to, so it was a good team showing."
Sutil was pleased with a pair of ninth places, despite reflecting upon his comments voiced over the radio during the session, that the car being 'undriveable'. "We had a good session in the afternoon and did some quite promising runs," the German said. " I was pleased with the car and we had no real problems but in the second session we did some race runs and struggled a lot with the softer tyre. I think once the track rubbers in the tyres will grip better, but overall I think we can be happy with where we are right now."
Adrian's optimism was backup up by team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella, with the Italian confident that the team is in better shape now than this time last year.
