Sébastien Buemi was satisfied with his first ever Formula One qualifying session for Scuderia Toro Rosso on Saturday. The Swiss driver, the only newcomer in the 2009 field, lapped the track with a fastest time of 1.26.503 to put him sixteenth; this soon became thirteenth, however, when both Toyotas and Hamilton received penalties which put them to the back.
As team-mate Bourdais struggled to get his Bridgestone tyres up to temperature, Buemi missed out on the second phase of qualifying by just a tenth of a second to Lewis Hamilton and impressed the team in the process.
"I have to say, I found the pace at which qualifying happens rather quick!" Sébastien admitted after the session. "You go out, you come back in, you change tyres, then you go out again - you need to stay relaxed; I think we did quite a good job and I am quite happy, as these days have been something of a test session for us and we improved the car quite a lot from what it was yesterday. I have taken confidence from what I have done so far and feel I am going to be capable of doing this job, even if I am quite young."
He also felt less distracted by the effects of the glare witnessed on Friday, with the sessions running later in 2009 than in previous years: "The visibility heading towards the sun was a bit better than yesterday, but we have to get used to it," he admitted.
