Jarno Trulli was saddened to learn of the loss of his third place in the Australian Grand Prix; the Italian finished third in Melbourne, only to be handed a 25-second penalty by the stewards after passing Lewis Hamilton under safety car conditions.

Trulli ran wide at Turn 15 - then penultimate corner - as the safety car circulated after the accidents of Robert Kubica and Mark Webber; Hamilton, who slowed momentarily, finally elected to pass the Toyota as it continued to run across the grass. The Italian was handed the penalty for the move which occurred the following lap, by repassing the World Champion in the train behind the safety car.

"I can't say how disappointed I am to finish third but have the result questioned," Trulli said later in the evening. "When the safety car came out towards the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road. I thought he had a problem, so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do."

It is believed that the Japanese team may further question the stewards' decision with governing body the FIA; "We have filed an appeal to give us more time to study the data and the situation," Trulli added.
