The Toyota cars of Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli will be starting the Australian Grand Prix from the pit lane, following their relegation to the back of the grid after qualifying. By starting from the pits, the Japanese team will be able to make adjustments to its TF109s, including fuels loads.
The FIA, following the general post-qualifying scrutineering, put the red and white cars to the back after discovering illegal flexible elements of the rear wings of Glock and Trulli's cars, meaning that their sixth and eighth positions on the grid were thrown away.
As they originally qualifyied for in the top ten, under normal circumstances they would not be allowed to refuel their cars between the end of the qualifying session and the start of the Grand Prix; by starting the cars from the pits, however, the team will be able to top its two drivers up with fuel for the start as this will give them more chances to change their strategy during the race, which will be especially useful if a number of safety car appearances occur.
