Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel will be travelling to Malaysia without taking with him any championship points. The German started from third and was well on his way to a podium finish in Australia when he collided with BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica. "It was really a shame, but these things happen," Vettel said after the race.

Vettel demonstrated a stunning performance in Saturday's qualifying as well as in the race, but suffered from a lack of grip towards the end of the race as Kubica homed in. "At the start of the race I pushed and pushed to stay close to Button," Vettel continued. "If he made a single mistake I would catch him. In the last stint, though, on the softer compounds, Kubica was closing in on me really quickly as he used the harder compound."

Vettel explained the incident which occured at Turn 3, ending with crashes for both drivers two corners later. "Robert had a lot more grip and was much faster. When we entered the corner side-by-side I couldn't go anywhere, and had to collide with him. It is really a shame for both of us but these things happen - we showed a promising performance here in Melbourne so I hope to continue that in Malaysia next weekend."
