Sebastian Vettel will carry a 10-place grid penalty to next weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. The German, who lost a podium position after a collision with Kubica's BMW, leaves Australia with - instead of eight or six points - a hefty fine as well as a large disadvantage heading into Round 2.
The incident happened just a handful of laps from the end of the Grand Prix when Kubica, on the harder of the two tyre compounds, had soon caught the second-placed Red Bull pilot. The Pole attempted the outside line at the third corner, with the two cars meeting just beyond the apex; despite picking up damage both men continued, only to lose control and crash in seperate incidents just two corners later.
Vettel will start the Malaysian Grand Prix ten slots down from where he qualifies next weekend as a result of the initial incident with Kubica, and his Red Bull Racing team also picks up a fine of $50,000 for advising their driver to continue running, even though his right-front wheel was not in contact with the ground, slowing other drivers down as the safety car was circulating.
