Mark Webber was a very downcast man as he climbed from the cockpit of his Red Bull after his home Grand Prix; the only Australian in the field, his eighth placed starting position counted for nothing as the RB5 was torpeoed during the first corner crunch. The knock-on effect began when Heikki Kovalainen pushed Rubens Barrichello into Webber, who then collected Heidfeld.
"It's one of the most frustrating and disappointing things that's happened to me," Webber told reporters in the paddock. "All the people come to see you at your home track, you're hoping for a good race for them, and that happens on the first lap - I lost virtually all downforce after that."
Mark unfortunately has a bad record at the Australian Grand Prix, with the only positive result being in his very first race for Minardi in 2002 in which another first corner incident aided him to fifth position. "These things don't do demolition derbies too well," he added.
