Brawn GP staff facing redundancies

30 March 2009

The new Brawn GP team is due to make large job cuts as the 2009 season progresses. The ex-Honda outfit, which locked out the top two positions in both qualifying and the race in Australia, faced complete closure over the winter before a management buyout saved the squad and its workforce.

With approximately 270 jobs to be lost at its Brackley headquarters, it is clear evidence that the current worldwide economical crisis is still very much still in full swing. "It's very unfortunate that we've got to do that but it has come from the change of technical regulations, and obviously we are now a private team," said team owner Ross Brawn.

"We are about 700 people at the moment," explained chief executive Nick Fry. "We've talked to the staff about going down to around 430, something like that, which is where we were in 2004 as B.A.R." The news is particularly sad for those working at Brawn, especially following their brilliant start to the season after a winter full of uncertainties."
