Sam Michael encouraged after opening race

Williams faced an incident-packed opening race at Albert Park on Sunday. Both drivers showed a strong performance in qualifying which failed to transfer to the race as both drivers Rosberg and Najaima made unforced errors, costing the team valuable points. The latter crashed out of the race with the former managing to score two points.

Williams F1's technical director, Sam Michael, believed the team did not get the maximum out of the Australian Grand Prix but is remaining positive: "We showed encouraging pace in today's race and when the car was in clear traffic, we were as quick as anyone - Nico recorded the fastest lap of the race and did a good job. However, we made too many mistakes as a team today and we will be looking to make a better job of what the car offers at the next race in Malaysia."

The Australian was gracious in defeat, though. "Congratulations to Ross Brawn, Jenson and their team for an impressive result," Michael continued. "...we will try our best not to let them make a habit of it!"
