Fisichella annoyed after crash
03 April 2009 / Results / PhotosGiancarlo Fisichella is disappointed to have missed out on running time from Friday's second practice session in Malaysia, having crashed his Force India at Turn 11. The Italian driver lost grip on acceleration out of Turn 10 before running wide onto the rumble strip and consequently skipping across the gravel before collecting the tyre wall, removing both left side wheels.

Out of the car to return to the pits, the Italian - who was at one point fastest - tumbled down to an eventual 19th, behind equally impressive team-mate Sutil who placed 16th. "We are still finding the best compromise under braking, as there is front locking as well as poor grip and traction so we have to work a lot to make the balance work for us," Fisichella explained after Friday's second practice.
"Over the longer runs it doesn't look too bad however," he continued. "It's a shame about the accident in the afternoon - I just went a little bit wide, as there was some graining on the tyres, and lost control of the car. It was just unlucky to go onto the gravel and into the barriers." Graining, which is more frequent since the reintroduction of slicks, is where - as a tyre wears - small balls of rubber being to develop on its surface, resulting in a loss of grip which often will only last for a small number of laps.
