Buemi all fired up

04 April 2009

Formula One rookie Sébastien Buemi is confident of his second successful Grand Prix in a week in Malaysia. The Swiss driver, who finished sixth in last year's GP2 championship, impressed in Australia last weekend by starting thirteenth, surpassing the performance of team-mate Bourdais and eventually finishing the race in seventh to claim two World Championship points.

Having driven to happiness in Australia on a track which he had learnt only two days before, Buemi is already feeling more confident at Sepang. "I drove here last year in GP2, so I know the circuit," he confirmed. "It's different, of course, but no problem - the heat is not bothering me, but you just have to make sure that you drink a bit more to cope with the sweating."

At 20, the youngest driver in the field completed another solid run in Friday practice with 17th in the first session becoming an even more impressive 13th in the second. "The track remained pretty consistent, which meant we were able to try several things on the car," he continued. "I am quite happy with what we have seen. In terms of tyres, it doesn't look as though the difference between the two types is a great as in Melbourne, and the degradation appears to be less. Our speed seems reasonable, but we still have a lot to do. Who knows what could happen in qualifying - it might be wet, so let's wait and see."
