Hamilton 'expected' lowly qualifying
04 April 2009 / Results / PhotosLewis Hamilton has explained how failing to make the cut for the third and final segment of qualifying in Malaysia was of no surprise, considering the pace of the McLaren MP4-24 over the course of the weekend. The World Champion benefits from Sebastian Vettel's penalty and moves into twelfth place on the grid, with team-mate Kovalainen fourteenth.
"It was to be expected," Hamilton reported to the BBC. "Nothing has changed since the last race, and it was as tough as ever; the car doesn't feel terrible but I can't carry the speed through the corners."
The World Champion started at the back in Australia last week and sliced through the field to an eventual third position, before being disqualified by the FIA for the team's providing of false information. "We're not dead last and I had no gearbox problems," he added, comparing the Saturdays.
