The BMW team has launched a fresh protest against the radical diffusers used by the Brawn, Wiliams and Toyota teams. A previous protest from Ferrari, Renault and Red Bull - with BMW later joining - was stood down in Melbourne although the Hinwil-based team has new lodged a new case, just hours after announcing that it would be attending the FIA's hearing on Tuesday 14 April.
BMW Sauber was unable to produce an official statement for the latest development, although a team spokesman did confirm that the new protest is 'purely a formal matter'. "It is intended to ensure that the result in Malaysia is also taken into consideration in the judge's decision," the spokesperson continued.
With the FIA-appointed race stewards having already classed the cars as legal, it is unlikely that a different outcome will be found this weekend. The judgement, therefore, is likely to rest solely in the hands of the governing body's International Court of Appeal (ICA) in Paris, scene of a number of controversial matters over the last few years which includes the McLaren-Ferrari 'spygate' case of 2007.
