McLaren in line to receive FIA charges

06 April 2009

The McLaren team's depressing start to the new season could get worse, with reports suggesting that the Woking-based squad is likely to receive disciplinary charges following the incident in which the team supposedly provided FIA-appointed race stewards with 'misleadng information', after the season-opening Grand Prix of Australia, just over a week ago.

Team manager Dave Ryan has been accused of providing the stewards with a false version of events during an on-track incident between McLaren's World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the Toyota of Jarno Trulli in the first race, for which the Italian's 25-second penalty was eventually lifted as the English team suffered disqualification.

With Hamilton having given a public apology for following the tainted commands, the FIA has already stated that the focus of the situation remains very much upon the shoulders of the team as opposed to the driver.

The matter now lies in the hands of the FIA's Internation Court of Appeal (ICA), although the governing body also commented that the case is likely not to task place until after the completion of the season-opening 'flyaway' races, ending with Round 4 in Bahrain on 26 April.
