The Renault team is to travel to the Middle East this week to give motorsport fans in Dubai the chance to experience the thrill and power a 2.4 litre V8 Formula One engine has to offer. The Enstone-based team will be taking with them last year's double race winner, the R28, which took Fernando Alonso to victory in Singapore and Japan.
The former double World Champion will not be travelling to Dubai this week, however, as second driver Nelsinho Piquet will be joined by reserve driver Romain Grosjean as well as Adam Kahn, demonstration driver for the event. A sponsor-friendly occasion, the Renault Roadshow first took place in 2003 and has visited world-famous cities such as Rotterdam, Lisbon, New Delhi and São Paulo.
Viewing should be spectacular for spectators, with events planning to have last year's model - which yielded fourth place in the constructors' championship - blasting through the desert, the city and even sped across a giant floating platform built on the Dubai Mall lagoon, infront of Burj Dubai, the tallest skyscraper in the world. "Dubai is one of the great cities of the world, and the ideal place to stage a roadshow," explained Nelsinho Piquer. "The chance to visit Dubai and show the people the excitement of Formula 1 is something I'm really looking forward to."
The action will begin on Thursday, running through until the end of the weekend.
