Brawn satisfied with diffuser outcome

15 April 2009

The Brawn GP team is elated to learn of the FIA's decision in Paris over their controversial and radical diffuser, after the governing body confirmed the legality of the device following an argument with rival teams.

Having won the first two races of the year Brawn, along with Williams and Toyota (which have developed similar devices), have been under fire from other competitors including Ferrari, Renault, Red Bull and BMW which - between them - launched protests against the innovations at the first two races.

Following Wednesday's decision from the International Court of Appeal (ICA) in Paris, however, Brawn GP have respected the rights of the other teams as well as expressing their own happiness over the result of Tuesday's hearing.

"We are pleased with the decision reached today," confirmed team principal and owner Ross Brawn from the team's base in Brackley. "We respect the right of our competitors to query any design or concept used on our cars, through the channels available to them. The FIA Technical Department, the Stewards at the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix and now five judges at the International Court of Appeal have confirmed our belief that our cars have always strictly complied with the 2009 Technical Regulations."

Brawn himself came under heavy criticism from Nigel Tozzi QC after both sides of the story were expressed in court yesterday, as the Ferrari lawyer claimed the engineer's comments on the matter as being of 'supreme arrogance' "The decision of the International Court of Appeal brings this matter to its conclusion," Brawn continued. "We look forward to continuing on the track the challenge of what has been a very exciting start to the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship."
