The Toyota team was delighted to learn the outcome of the diffuser issue, as their device was confirmed as legal by the sport's governing body, the FIA. The 'double-diffuser', which is believed to yield up to half a second per lap on some tracks, has helped the team to podium finishes in both of the Grand Prix so far in 2009.

"I was confident the Court of Appeal would reach this verdict and I am satisfied with it," said Tadashi Yamashina, chairman and team principal of the team. "It is important to stress that we studied the technical regulations in precise detail, consulting the FIA in the process, and never doubted our car complied with them. This has been a challenging period for Formula 1, and I am pleased that this issue is now in the past and we can focus on an exciting season on the track."
The team continued to stress that it studied the matter deeply on the run-up to the hearing, and - with strong performances from Trulli and Glock so far so far this year - should have its best ever chance to win a Grand Prix.
